ROTRAUT KLEIN-MOQUAY
Rotraut Klein-Moquay, known by her mononym Rotraut, is a German-French visual artist whose lively and intuitive forms recur throughout her paintings and sculpture.
Born in Rerik, Germany in 1938, Rotraut moved to Nice, France in 1957, where she had her first gallery exhibition and became closely associated with the Nouveau Réalisme movement. It was here that she met the artist Yves Klein, whom she married in 1962.
Rotraut’s work explores concepts of the cosmos, universal intelligence, and immateriality. Her paintings and sculpture are represented in public collections, including the Centre Pompidou in France, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and the Phoenix Art Museum in the United States. She is an Officier in the Government of France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
